T6 : Better Dead than Red

-Better Dead than Red is a short satire aimed at fears that captivated and consumed 1950's Cold War-era America. Portrayed in the style of a propaganda news reel, subjects such as fear of communism, the "birth" of the pledge of allegiance, and the race for space are explored with sarcastic urgency.
"Better dead than Red" was an anti-Communist phrase, possibly first used during World War II and later during the Cold War by the United States. It was possibly coined by Nazi Germany's propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, in the end phase of the Second World War to motivate the German military and population to fight the Soviet Red Army to the end.

1)Pair work : Watch the video above and describe it to your partner.
2) Group work  : Explain  what the Americans feared  in the 50s; use adjectives to qualify their feelings then.
What were the consequences of these fears on their everyday life ? On the school rules ? On the government's decisions ?
-Rephrase now using notions of reproach : what does this humouristic video blame the Americans for ?
Use other adjectives to qualify them from today's point of view.
